The JW Mitchell High School Band (JWMHS Band)
consists of the 130 member
Marching Mustangs
Band,
Wind
Ensemble, Symphonic Band and the
Jazz Ensemble. The band program
is the largest in Pasco County.
Students whose solo or ensemble received a Superior rating at our District Solo and Ensemble evaluation were able to advance to the State event held on April 2, 2013. Our qualified students traveled to Ft. Myers and we are please to announce the following received Superior ratings, which is the highest level of achievement for high school musicians in Florida!

Congratulations to Colin Gaynor and Jenny Rocco for successfully auditioning for the Florida All State Band. This is a the highest accomplishment for high school band and to have 2 students from JWMHS in All State is amazing! They will take part in the FMEA All State Clinic and Conference in January.
We are also proud to announce that we have 30 students who successfully auditioned for the Pasco All County Band! Congrats to all who auditioned on making yourself a better musician.

Percussion: Logan Sharpe (1st Chair), Nick Remy, Madison Schafer
Derik Gallulo, Taylor Tischhauser, Ali Sage, Julia Mannino, Lindsay Seeney, Nick Remy, Rachel Robichaud and Colin Gaynor were selected to participate in the Festival of Winds and Tri-State music festivals held at USF and FSU respectively. These students will participate in honor bands conducted by the country’s top professors and clinicians in late November.
On October 6, 2012 the JW MHS Band competed in our first competition of the year at the West Coast Marching Band Invitational at Durant High School. It was an excellent show and we placed 2nd overall with our percussion receiving a distinguished percussion award!
On Oct. 20, 2012, the JW MHS Band competed at the Lion's Pride Competition held at King HS, we had one of our best performances of the year with the results of: 2nd in Gold Division, 3rd/11 Overall, Superior Music Performance and Tied for 1st in Best Perscussion.
At the Florida Bandmasters Marching Performance Assessment, the band received a Straight Superior rating. This is the highest rating given by the Florida Bandmaster’s Association
The JWMHS Jazz Band is available to perform shows at outside venues. Please contact Mr. Joel Quina at juquina@pasco.k12.fl.us if you are interested in arranging for a performance.
The JWMHS Band program is led by band director Joel Quina, who also co-directs the musical theatre class.
The JW Mitchell High School Band Boosters,
an organization comprised of band member parents, helps to support
the efforts of the growing band program. Through the JW Mitchell
High School, the JW Mitchell High School Band Booster Association is
able to accept your donations towards fundraising efforts.
